Constant Mouton, MD
Psychiatry Is About More Than Diagnosing Illness. It's About Understanding People.
I'm Dr. Constant Mouton, a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, educator, and author with a special interest in addiction, trauma, family systems, and long-term recovery.
Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals and families affected by some of life's most complex psychological challenges. Whether supporting someone through addiction, helping families rebuild trust, or treating co-occurring mental health conditions, my work has always been guided by the same belief:
People are more than their diagnosis.
Behind every symptom is a person with a unique history, relationships, strengths, and hopes for the future. Effective treatment begins by understanding the whole person—not simply the illness.

My Approach
Recovery is rarely straightforward.
Mental health difficulties, addiction, trauma, and relationship problems often overlap, requiring thoughtful assessment and an individualised treatment plan rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.
My work integrates medical expertise with psychological understanding, drawing on evidence-based approaches including psychiatry, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema therapy, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and family systems thinking.
While scientific evidence forms the foundation of my work, I also believe that compassion, curiosity, and genuine collaboration are essential components of effective care.
Treatment should never feel like something that is done to someone. It should be a process of working with people as they move towards recovery.
A Particular Interest In Addiction And Family Recovery
Much of my professional work has focused on addiction psychiatry.
Over the years, one lesson has become increasingly clear: addiction rarely affects only one individual. Partners, parents, children, siblings, and close friends are often deeply impacted as well.
Supporting recovery therefore means looking beyond the individual and recognising the important role that families and social relationships play in long-term wellbeing.
This philosophy led me to establish Family Recovery Central, an educational platform dedicated to helping families better understand addiction, recovery, communication, and healthy boundaries through practical, evidence-based resources.
Education And Professional Development
Alongside clinical work, I enjoy teaching and contributing to the development of mental health professionals.
I regularly develop educational material, deliver presentations, and write about psychiatry, addiction, recovery, and family involvement in treatment. My aim is always the same: to translate complex psychological and psychiatric concepts into information that is practical, accessible, and clinically meaningful.
I am also the author of The Roadmap to Family Recovery, a practical guide designed to help families better understand addiction and support recovery while caring for their own wellbeing.
Current work
My current professional activities focus primarily on education, writing, professional development, and expanding Family Recovery Central.
My private psychiatric practice is currently closed to new referrals and does not maintain a waiting list.
Looking ahead
I believe the future of mental healthcare lies in integrating scientific knowledge with genuine human connection.
By improving understanding of addiction, strengthening family involvement, and making evidence-based psychological knowledge more accessible, we can help more people find lasting recovery. Not only from illness, but towards healthier, more meaningful lives.
